The Career Planning and Assessment courses are designed for adults who need help identifying where their preferences lie. These courses are intensive, four to five session courses-which include career testing-that will assist adults in identifying career options that best match their interests, values, abilities, and preferences. Adults will learn how to research career occupations, identify skills, and set realistic career goals.

Career Planning and Assessment courses are offered classes in group and individual formats. Each class uses 3 interest inventories, a values inventory, a preferences inventory, and an abilities inventory. The same tests are used in the Group and Individual sessions. Types of Testing

The following is the complete list of assessment instruments that the UNO Career Planning and Assessment Center utilizes. The typical program consists of a mixture some of these instruments.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): This is a personality test that sorts individuals into 16 distinct personality types based on their preferences. Once individuals understand the characteristics of their personality type they will understand how their personality influences their communications and interactions with others.

Campbell Interest and Skill Survey (CIIS): This is a survey of self-reported interests and skills. The CIIS interest scales help individuals determine their attraction for specific occupational areas while the skill scale estimates their confidence in performing occupational activities.

Career Occupational Preference System (COPSystem): This is a system of three inventories designed to assist in the career decision-making process. The results of this inventory present a wide scope of occupational choices and isolate a smaller segment for consideration in terms of personal interests, abilities, and values.

Self-Directed Search (SDS): Assists individuals in thinking of career options by either narrowing or expanding options. Helps individuals discover a “match” between their choice of careers or study and their self-reported skills and interests.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII): An interest inventory that is a dependable guide for career enrichment, change, and development. Items measure interest in a broad range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects.
